Dr Sir,

I will trouble you to afford me

some information, in regard to the grounds upon

which you issued your proclamation against

the “Mormons,” or “Latter-day Saints,” as they call

themselves, which led to their extermination

from their “New Jarusalum.”        Some two

or three men, of that order, are now in this

country, and are endeavoring to prejudice

the public mind against the Executive of Mo.,

but do not succeed with men of  reflection

I hope you will find it compat-

ible with your views of propriety to give me

satisfactory information, touching the object

of my inquiry

                        Very respectfully yours

His Excellency, the Gov. of Mo      D. H  Johnson
