To His Excellency,
The Commander in Chief
Sir, Your order through
the Adjutant General of 15th inst: was received
on the 22nd inst- Your Excellency will percieve
from a former report, that an armed force
was ordered out under my command from
the Militia of the 3rd Div: to put down in:
:surrection, supposed to exist in the Counties of
Caldwell & Davis, and to assist the Civil of:
:ficerz in those Counties to bring offenderz
to trial, and otherwise enforce the lawz —
I now again inform your Excellency that
all offenderz against the lawz in those
Countiez, against whom procesz was issued, &
particularly the persons in the writ named,
issued by William Dryden, a Justice of the peace
for
as were found in the
brought before a Court of enquiry & recognized
to appear at the Circuit Court- And Brigadier
Genl Parks was left in said
two companies of fifty men each for the purpose
of enforcing the laws under the direction of the
Civil officerz, and from the facts, as far az
as I could learn them, one hundred men were
amply sufficient for all purposez of enforcing
law, keeping down insurrection. &c
