His Excellency L. W. Boggs.
Sir. Inasmuch as the
Commissary General of the State could not follow
the movements of the army under my command,
and it becoming absolutely necessary for the
preservation of the Stores & munitions of war
to have an acting Commissary, I appointed to
that office Alfred W. Morrison, & desire your
Excellency to ratify that appointment, & have
forwarded to me or Mr. Morrison at Fay:
:ette, a commission to that effect. It is de:
:sirable if possible to have it before my final
report of the expedition is made
