Ashcroft Announces Safe at Home Milestone

Jefferson City, Mo. – Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is pleased to announce that the Safe at Home address confidentiality program, administered by his office, has now served over 7,000 crime victims. 

Safe at Home provides a designated mailing address for participants to use in place of their home address when creating new records with government agencies and the courts. The mailing address can be used to receive first class, legal, and certified mail, limiting the number of places where survivors use their protected address. Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes, may enroll themselves and their minor children in the program.

“Participants in the Safe at Home program have often had their lives uprooted by fear,” Ashcroft said. “The program has helped to protect them from the threats they face every day. Our office remains dedicated to protecting survivors of abuse and advocating on their behalf.” 

To ensure Missourians have full access to the program, Ashcroft’s office has trained almost 700 Safe at Home Application Assistants serving in 272 non-profit and government agencies throughout the state. All program applicants meet in person with an Application Assistant who has been trained by the secretary of state’s office. 

Created by legislation on August 28, 2007, Safe at Home begins its fourteenth year and has a current enrollment of over 2,800 individuals.
