Ashcroft Visits Texas County Ahead of November 2 Election

Jefferson City, Mo. — On October 28, Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft visited Texas County and met with county officials, including Interim County Clerk Peggy Seyler.

Seyler and her staff are preparing for a November 2 fire district election, and Ashcroft wanted to lend support and assistance.  Seyler was named interim clerk on October 21 due to the resignation of Laura Crowley.  Ashcroft was also present during poll worker training and spoke with election workers.

“Peggy’s office is doing a great job and they have things well under control,” Ashcroft said. “Poll workers, election judges and county staff work very long hours under stressful conditions. They are on the front lines protecting our right to vote each Election Day.”

As Missouri’s top election official, Ashcroft stressed the importance of voting by saying, “The opportunity to vote is the backbone of our republic.  We should never take voting for granted nor forget those responsible for establishing and protecting freedom – It’s our right, it’s our responsibility to vote.”

To wrap up the visit, Ashcroft met briefly with Texas County commissioners to see what help his office could provide during the county clerk transition.

Ashcroft encourages Missourians to visit GoVoteMissouri.com for trusted election information.
