Hi, I'm Missouri National Guard Adjutant General Steve Danner.
Our right to vote has been defended by the courage and sacrifice of many brave men and women who have served in our nation's armed forces.
Right now, there are more than 26,000 Missourians serving in all branches of the military, and many will be on active duty overseas on Election Day.
These brave men and women make great sacrifices to keep us safe, but they should never have to sacrifice their right to vote.
That's why I'm glad that new state and federal laws improved the voting process, so that it's faster and more convenient than ever before.
I know first-hand from my deployment in Iraq that voting overseas can be difficult. When military members are stationed overseas they had to wait weeks for their ballot to arrive in the mail.
But this year, for the first time, our service members can get their ballot by secure email. And, after they return it, they can track their ballot to get confirmation it was received back home. I know these changes will make a big difference for our troops.
Absentee ballots are available NOW. So if you or a loved one are serving overseas I'd encourage you to visit www.GoVoteMissouri.com or talk with your Voting Assistance Officer to learn more about the new law.
Thank you for what you do.
