Missouri resident attending college in Missouri

If you are attending college at a Missouri school that is in a different county than that of your home residence, you can register from your home residence, or from your college residence.

Where you choose to register to vote from depends on which candidates and issues are important to you. Elections for some offices like US President and U.S. Senator and executive state offices like governor will be equally available to all of Missouri’s voting jurisdictions. Other elections for offices like U.S. Congress, State Senate and State Representative will feature different candidates in the separate districts of the state. Elections for local offices and issues such as mayor, county commissioner, sheriff, school board, and property taxes, will only be available to voters in the respective locality.

If you register to vote from your home residence, you will be eligible to vote on all candidates and issues available to voters in your home jurisdiction. You will not be able to vote on any of the candidates or issues in your college jurisdiction.

If you register to vote from your college residence you will be able to vote on candidates and issues available to voters in your college jurisdiction. You will not be able to vote on any of the candidates or issues in your home jurisdiction.

If you are interested in running for political office, some political offices have residency requirements for qualifications. In order to be qualified for certain offices candidates must be residents and registered voters of the district for certain numbers of years. Where you register to vote from while you are in college may impact your eligibility for office.

Wherever you choose to register to vote from, if you will be absent from the jurisdiction on Election day, you are eligible to vote by absentee.
