Overview:
An individual in this position provides analysis, design, development, and maintenance of professional, user-friendly, and intuitive web pages. The position also provides analysis, design, program development, and administration/configuration of computer application software in a web-based environment. The Web Developer is responsible for producing high quality, interactive sites using current standards and technologies in addition to participation in setting organizational web development strategies, assistance with website architecture and overall site structure.
Responsibilities:
The general responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following job functions.
- Web Development
Analyze, plan, and develop GUI solutions
- Application Development
Analyze, plan, develop, code, debug and document application solutions - Web/Application Testing
Perform essential tests to ensure functionality and performance
- Web/Application Support
Maintain and enhance existing applications including diagnosis and troubleshooting problems with existing sites and applications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities::
An individual in this position will be able to perform the following types of work tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to, these examples.
- Designs and builds web pages for the presentation of textual, graphical, and media information or as the user interface layer of interactive web applications.
- Designs user interface layout for MS Windows client-server applications.
- Writes program logic necessary to perform basic functions of handling page controls and interacting with the middle tier.
- Designs layouts and prototypes and builds CSS for professional, user-friendly, accessibility-compliant GUI pages.
- Writes program logic necessary to perform middle or “business” tier functionality as well as interacting with databases.
- Directs or assists in the establishment, updating, and enforcement of standards for GUI and program development.
- Participates in technical analysis of proposed solutions and development tasks necessary to meet end-user requirements.
- Provides data to users in various media including static text, static documents, fillable/printable forms and documents, interactive database-driven pages, and audio/video.
- Performs maintenance/enhancement activities on existing application user interfaces and web pages in accordance with user or analyst requirements and without disrupting functional existing code/pages.
- Performs website updates based upon user requests/requirements.
- Thoroughly tests and corrects developed pages so that they promote to the next level bug-free.
- May create or assist in the development of database objects.
- Uses object-oriented architectural concepts in developing code.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve problems, as required.
- Develops efficient and effective software modules from higher-level design documents.
- Provides accurate status reports of work progress when asked.
- Provides reasonable estimates of upcoming tasks assigned.
- Comfortably uses design, development, and source control tools.
- Provides informal training and assistance to co-workers where appropriate.
- Provides web statistical information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, or closely related field from an accredited college, university, or technical training institute.
- Minimum of three years full-time experience doing web design and development utilizing tools, languages, and operating environment equivalent to that used by the Secretary of State’s office.
