Missouri Secretary of State
Missouri Digital Heritage: August 2011 Features and Events
This month, and throughout the summer, the Missouri State Archives is hosting the Great Missouri Treasure Hunt! This statewide contest encourages Missourians to explore the rich collections of historic records held by state and local institutions. Treasure hunters can submit stories, photos, scans of documents, or videos for a chance to win prizes in three categories: Family History, Civil War History and Missouri History. The best discoveries will even earn THEIR OWN place in history as part of the next Official Manual of the State of Missouri.

Later this month, the Civil War Speaker Series continues with a visit from historian Walter Kamphoefner. Kamphoefner’s lecture will focus on the men and women that made up Missouri’s German American population during the war, highlighting their role in the state’s fight for emancipation.
This event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the Harry S. Truman Building on August 11th at 7:00 PM. The monthly speaker series is sponsored by the Friends of the Missouri State Archives and underwritten by the Missouri Humanities Council with the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
