Kander Signs Pledge to Support Guard and Reserve Employees
Jefferson City, MO — Secretary of State Jason Kander today signed the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Pledge. The statement affirms the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office’s commitment to honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
Kander, a former Army Captain who served in Afghanistan, joins other private and government employers across the nation pledging to:
- ensure managers and supervisors will have necessary tools to effectively manage employees serving in the National Guard and reserves,
- appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire guardsmen, reservists and veterans; and
- continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, crises and war.
“Having balanced a military and civilian career personally, I know that supportive employers are critical to maintaining the readiness and strength of our country’s National Guard and reserve units,” Kander said. “This statement sends a clear message that we’re committed to military employees and the strong global perspective, integrity and leadership they bring to the workplace.”
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for guard and reserve service. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws and resolves conflict between service members and employers.
