Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander reminds investors to be aware of account fees before investing
Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jason Kander is reminding Missouri investors to be aware of fees associated with investment accounts before investing.
“My office has received complaints from investors who were hit with fees that they didn’t realize would be charged. When opening an account, it is crucial to analyze these fees because they can translate into large differences in the returns you receive from your investment,” Kander said.
Applicable fees may include charges for commissions, transactions, transfers, surrenders, cancellations, overdrafts and management. Fees vary and can be imposed by broker-dealers, investment adviser firms, mutual fund companies and insurance companies.
Investment professionals must provide you with notice of any changes in fees or fee structure. Additionally, the Missouri Securities Division can provide detailed information about the registration status of securities, broker-dealers and investment advisers.
