Model Rural School Contributed by: Pickler Memorial Library Special Collections, Truman State University The Model Rural School photograph collection contains images from the Model Rural School located at the First District Normal School (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO. It was the brainchild of former Normal School president, John R. Kirk. He designed his notion of the ideal rural schoolhouse, advocated for its building in 1907, and implemented a new curriculum to provide a better education for county children so they could serve the unique needs of their communities.
