It was the brainchild of former Normal School president, John R. Kirk. He designed his notion of the ideal rural schoolhouse, advocated for its building in 1907, and implemented a new curriculum to provide a better education for county children so they could serve the unique needs of their communities. These images show various classroom activities and school furnishings. |
