Ashcroft, Department of Health and Human Services and Lady Jays Golf Team Partner Against Elder Abuse
Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced a partnership with the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services and Jefferson City High School Lady Jays golf team to raise awareness for Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Thursday, June 15. The volunteers will hand out purple ribbons at the State Capitol and distribute posters throughout the downtown area.
“We are delighted to help in alerting the public to a type of abuse that often goes unseen in our society,” Ashcroft said. “With this effort, we hope to empower those who may have witnessed or experienced elder abuse to call our hotline.” The Secretary of State’s Vulnerable Citizens Services Unit assisted in coordinating the event.
Ashcroft urges Missourians to call the Adult Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 800-392-0210 if they believe they have witnessed abuse. He also encourages those who witness or experience financial exploitation to call the Vulnerable Citizens Services Hotline at 855-653-7300.
