Secretary Hoskins Thanks Local Election Authorities as Missouri Uses SAVE Database to Verify Voter Citizenship Records
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Secretary of State’s Office has sent citizenship confirmation notices to several hundred Missouri voters whose citizenship status could not be verified through routine database review using the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program and state resources.
The outreach is part of required ongoing list-maintenance work conducted in partnership with Missouri’s local election authorities to help ensure voter-registration records remain accurate and up to date.
“These letters reflect routine due diligence and a strong working partnership with our local election authorities,” said Denny Hoskins. “Only United States citizens may vote in Missouri. If you receive one of these letters, check your mail, respond promptly, and confirm your information. Missourians can review their registration anytime at showmovotes.com.”
The Missouri Secretary of State’s Office emphasized that receiving a confirmation notice does not mean a voter has been determined ineligible. Data mismatches can occur for several reasons, including recent naturalization or incomplete federal records. The notices provide voters 90 days to submit documentation or affirm their citizenship status to their local election authority.
Local election authorities are responsible under Missouri law for maintaining voter-registration records and making any final determinations regarding eligibility. Information submitted in response to the notices will be reviewed at the local level consistent with Missouri and federal law.
Secretary Hoskins thanked local election authorities across Missouri for their continued partnership in reviewing records using the SAVE database and other available tools.
“Our local election authorities do careful, professional work every day to maintain accurate voter rolls,” Hoskins said. “This is an ongoing partnership between the Secretary of State’s Office and election officials across Missouri to support transparency, accountability, and confidence in our elections.”
The confirmation notices also inform recipients of their rights under federal and state law, including the ability to correct federal citizenship records with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the right to notice and a hearing before any change is made to their voter-registration status.
Missourians who receive a notice are encouraged to respond promptly and contact their local election authority if they have questions. Assistance is also available through the Missouri Secretary of State’s Elections Division at [email protected] or (573) 751-2301.
For all voters, the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office encourages reviewing registration information regularly at showmovotes.com.
“This effort reflects responsible election administration,” Hoskins said. “Checking voter-registration records using available state and federal resources helps ensure Missouri’s elections remain secure, accurate, and trusted.”
