Hoke Receives Local Records e-Volunteer Award from the Friends of the Missouri State Archives
Jefferson City, Mo. —– Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and the Friends of the Missouri State Archives are happy to announce the recipient of the 2026 Local Records e-Volunteer Award.
The Friends of the Missouri State Archives annually present this as one of three awards to citizen volunteers who exhibit a particularly strong commitment to the work of the Missouri State Archives and the Local Records section. The Lynda Stubblefield Award is made to honor an in-house Archives volunteer, this year’s recipient is Andrea Beck from Cole County; the Local Records Volunteer Award recipient is Janet Hawley from Nodaway County; and the e-Volunteer Award recipient is Claudia Hoke from Jackson County.
Claudia Hoke has been an invaluable member of the Archives’ eVolunteer Corps for over 20 years. In 2005, she joined in the inaugural year of indexing Missouri Death Certificates, and has continued to do so through the present. Other indexing projects through the Archives include the 1940 US Census, St. Louis Register of Deaths, and World War I Biography & Service Records.
The St. Louis Register of Deaths project is notable. She started working on this project in December 2023 (shortly after its launch). For a short time, she was one of the only volunteers actively working on the project, but remained a top indexer over the duration. Volunteers finished indexing in Spring 2026, and by the end she had reviewed and indexed 6,350 pages (out of a total 18,810 pages), equal to 1/3 of the project.
The Friends of the Missouri State Archives announced Hoke as this year’s Local Records e-Volunteer Award recipient at their 2026 annual meeting, held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center in Jefferson City.
