EXECUTIVE ORDER
86-8

WHEREAS, the Adjutant General has custodial responsibility for all military records, correspondence, and other military documents of the Missouri National Guard; and

WHEREAS, these military records are currently stored at various National Guard facilities throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, the Secretary of State has offered the State Archives as an additional resource for storage of inactive, historic military records of the National Guard;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN ASHCROFT, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, and Commander in Chief of the Militia, do hereby order that such inactive, historic military records of the Missouri National Guard, as the Adjutant General deems appropriate, be transferred for storage to the State Archives for care and safekeeping; provided, however, the Adjutant General will retain custodial responsibility for the records thus stored at the State Archives as required by law, and the Commissioner of War Records will remain responsible for the maintenance of records and issuance of certificates of war service.
