EXECUTIVE ORDER
89-6

WHEREAS, ethanol is a suitable additive to improve fuel octane; and

WHEREAS, ethanol blended fuel provides for cleaner air by reducing carbon monoxide emissions; and

WHEREAS, ethanol is a product of corn, a renewable resource that is compatible with the environment; and

WHEREAS, ethanol production means new markets for Missouri corn farmers; and

WHEREAS, ethanol blended fuel will reduce America's reliance on foreign oil:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN ASHCROFT, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the constitution and laws of the State of Missouri, do hereby order and direct all state department directors to instruct their employees to use ethanol blended fuel in state-owned vehicles.

This Executive Order applies when ethanol blended fuel is readily available, compatible with vehicle specifications and is the competitively priced, cost-beneficial alternative for use.

State law enforcement and public safety vehicles are exempt from this Order.
