EXECUTIVE ORDER
NO. 98-10

 

WHEREAS, I have been advised by the Director of the State Emergency Management Agency that a natural disaster of major proportions has occurred in 13 South Central Missouri counties due to severe storms and flash flooding; and

WHEREAS, the 13 counties are: Benton, Camden, Cooper, Craford, Dent, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Phelps, and Reynolds; and

WHEREAS, damage to and loss of property and interruption of public infrastructure are occurring as a result of the severe weather beginning July 25, 1998 and continuing; and

WHEREAS, protection of the safety and welfare of the citizens and their property in the affected communities require an invocation of the provisions of Section 44.100, RSMo, 1994;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mel Carnahan, Governor of the State of Missouri, by virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 44.100, RSMo, 1994, do hereby declare that a State of Emergency exists in the State of Missouri. The 13 counties in the South Central areas are hereby declared disaster areas, and I do hereby direct that the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan be activated. I further authorize the use of state agencies to provide assistance and support to the affected areas.

This order shall terminate on August 31, 1998, unless extended in whole or in part.
