EXECUTIVE ORDER
15-07

WHEREAS, Joseph Patrick Teasdale was born and raised a fourth generation Missourian in Kansas City, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Patrick Teasdale earned a diploma from Rockhurst High School, earned a bachelor of science degree in literature from Rockhurst College, and earned a law degree from St. Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Patrick Teasdale served the United States of America as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, from 1961 until 1967, and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Missouri, from 1962 until 1966; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 30, Joseph Patrick Teasdale won the 1966 election for Prosecuting Attorney of Jackson County, Missouri, an office he would hold until 1972; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, the Kansas City Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Joseph Patrick Teasdale as its “Outstanding Man of the Year” for, among other things, his support of Kansas City’s drug program for youth offenders; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Patrick Teasdale earned the nickname “Walkin’ Joe” for his reputation as a unrelenting campaigner who took his message to the people by walking across the state to personally visit with Missourians; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Patrick Teasdale was elected and served as the 48th Governor of the state of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, as Governor, Joseph Patrick Teasdale established Missouri’s first Division of Aging, advocated for those with mental health needs, and oversaw the rewriting of numerous healthcare laws, among numerous other accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his exemplary public service, Joseph Patrick Teasdale took pride in his devout Catholic faith and in his role as a husband and father of three.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JEREMIAH W. (JAY) NIXON, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the state of Missouri, do hereby dedicate and name the state office building, located at 8800 East 63rd Street, Raytown, Missouri, in honor of Joseph Patrick Teasdale; a great American, a great Missourian, and 48th Governor of the state of Missouri.

8800 East 63rd Street shall henceforth be known as the Joseph Patrick Teasdale - State Office Building.
