How to Complete a Download from BARD Online using JAWS 19 and Windows 10:

Using Internet Explorer:

  1. Log into BARD and search for a book. Once you have a book you wish to download, select the option that reads “Download” followed by the title.
  2. Once the download is completed, here are the steps to follow:
    1. Select Alt-N (the Alt and N keys hit at the same time).
      1. Select “Tab” to save.
      2. Use the down arrow key to select “Save as.”
    2. Select Alt-N again
      1. Select “Open” to open the zip file
      2. Hit backspace to go to the list of files in the download folder.
    3. Select the “Applications” key.
      1. On most keyboards, this is the “Applications” key is three to the right of the spacebar. If you are able to see it, it looks like a rectangle with three lines through the middle.
    4. Down arrow until “Extract All” is selected.
    5. Hit the “Enter” key.
    6. Locate file again, the select the “Applications” key.
    7. Down arrow until “Move to” is selected
    8. Select the file that you wish to move the file to. Typically, this will be to the D, E, or F drives for a talking book cartridge, or flash drive, SD card, or a refreshable braille display’s internal memory.
    9. The player-ready file should now be ready to use.

 Using Firefox:

  1. Log into BARD and search for a book. Once you have a book you wish to download, select the option that reads “Download” followed by the title.
  2. Once the download is completed, here are the steps to follow:
    1. Tab until you hear “Open With.”
    2. Hit the down arrow key
    3. Hit enter
  3. Open the downloads folder. There are two options:
    1. Option 1: Hit Shift Tab until you hear “Downloads Folder” and select “all downloads” from the options.
    2. Option 2: Open the “Downloads Folder” from the Windows File Explorer
  4. Down arrow until you reach the title needing unzipped.
  5. Select the “Applications” key.
    1. On most keyboards, this is the “Applications” key is three to the right of the spacebar. If you are able to see it, it looks like a rectangle with three lines through the middle.
  6. Down arrow until “Extract All” is selected.
  7. Hit the “Enter” key.
  8. Locate file again, the select the “Applications” key.
  9. Down arrow until “Move to” is selected
  10. Select the file that you wish to move the file to. Typically, this will be to the D, E, or F drives for a talking book cartridge, or flash drive, SD card, or a refreshable braille display’s internal memory.
  11. The player-ready file should now be ready to use.

Using Google Chrome:

  1. Log into BARD and search for a book. Once you have a book you wish to download, select the option that reads “Download” followed by the title.

    1. Press SHIFT F6 (Shift and F6 keys at the same time) to locate the downloads bar
    2. Select “Download”
      1. Zip folder automatically opens, so we need to return to the downloads folder.
    3. Select the “Backspace” key to return to the downloads folder.
    4. Tab through until you enter the list of books.
    5. Down arrow until you reach the title needing unzipped.
    6. Select the “Applications” key.

    7. Down arrow until “Extract All” is selected.
    8. Hit the “Enter” key.
