Wolfner Library hosts a teen writing contest for patrons age 13 to 18 annually. This year we are adding a new component to our writing contest: flash fiction! What is flash fiction? Flash fiction is a form of short story that consists of between 300 to 1,500 words.

The submission period begins October 15th. 

The final day to submit poems and/or flash fiction is 
December 12th




First Place: iPad or Samsung tablet with Bluetooth keyboard


Second Place: Livescribe Aegir Smartpen, Blue Dolphin Education Edition


Participation Prize: Playaway® audiobook of The Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips to Clean Up Your Writing by Mignon Fogarty


 Winners will be chosen and their names will be listed in Wolfner Library’s Spring Newsletter.

Teen Writing Contest Submission Guidelines:

  • Must be written by a Wolfner Library patron between the ages of 13 and 18
  • Signed release form is required
  • Patron may submit more than one poem or flash fiction, but would only be able to win once
  • Poem(s) or flash fiction should be original work by the participant
  • Poem(s) or flash fiction may not contain any of the following:
    • Violence
    • Strong Language
    • Sexual Content

Submit typed, hand written, or brailled work and a completed  release form to:
