Volunteer Opportunities
From processing Missouri's state and local records to facilitating access to those same records, volunteers allow the Missouri State Archives to fulfill its mission of serving as a research center for the study of Missouri's history.
Volunteers in the Missouri State Archives' programs take on a variety of duties to help the Archives achieve its goals. These tasks include:
- Researching microfilm records and printed materials to answer genealogical requests.
- Assisting patrons with genealogical or historical research
- Processing historic documents
- Working with photographs
- Arranging records in prescribed order for microfilming
- Answering the telephone and responding to requests for information
- Clerical work (typing, filing, etc.)
- Transcribing historical records for Internet access
- Special research projects

These projects, requiring many different talents and skills, are integral to the operation of the Missouri State Archives. Volunteers ensure a higher quality of service for all our patrons. In addition, volunteers meet new people, brush up on office skills and equipment, gain proficiency in history and research, and take a part in preserving Missouri's fascinating history. The Missouri State Archives provides orientation, training, and supervision to all volunteers.
If you are interested in these or any future opportunities, please contact the Missouri State Archives.
