Directory of Missouri Historical Records Repositories

This directory is the product of a statewide assessment and planning effort supported by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).  Any Missouri institution or organization that has original records in its care is eligible for inclusion.  Repositories that do not have primary source material or only care for historical artifacts, not records, are not included in this directory.

The directory may be searched by keyword, such as a county name or subject area, using the “Find” box typically located in the toolbar at the top of the page.  The subject areas utilized in the directory are: African Americans, Agriculture, Archaeology, Arts and Architecture, Business/Industry/Manufacturing/Economic, Civil War/Border War, Education, Environmental Affairs/Natural Resources, Genealogy, Geography/Topography, Immigrants/Ethnic Groups, Labor, Local History, Medicine and Health Care, Military, Native Americans, Oral History, Politics/Government/Law, Religion, Science and Technology, Social Service/Charitable Organizations, Sports/Recreation/Leisure, Transportation and Communication, and Women.

In order to be listed in the directory or to submit changes to an existing entry, please send an email to [email protected].  Requests for new entries should include the organization name, street address, telephone and fax number, email address, website address, hours of operation, county location, applicable subject area(s) from the list above, and any additional information regarding collections that should be highlighted.
